Ingredients:

  • Milk 1 liter
  • Condensed milk ½ tin
  • Corn flour 1 tbsp
  • Milk 2 tbsp
  • White bread (cubed) 5 -7 slices
  • Green cardamom powder ½ tsp
  • Saffron big pinch
  • Pistachios (chopped) 2 tbsp

 

Method:
Boil the milk for 15-25 minutes or until thickened. Add in condensed milk. Add in corn flour diluted in a little milk. Keep stirring till a bit more thicker but should NOT coat the spoon. Add in bread cubes, after removing the sides. Do not cook any further. Add in cardamom powder and saffron and chopped pistachios. Chill in the refrigerator overnight.

Ingredients:

  • Split Bengal gram 1/4 cup
  • Pigeon peas 1/4 cup
  • Red lentils 2 tbsp
  • Split Green gram 2 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder 1 tsp
  • Red chili powder 1 1/2 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil 2 tbsp
  • Onions (sliced) 2
  • Garlic (chopped) 1 1/2 tbsp
  • Bay leaves 2
  • Green chilies slit 2
  • Ginger paste 1 tsp
  • Red pumpkin (cubes) 1/2 cup
  • Tamarind pulp 1/4 cup
  • Clarified butter 2 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds 1 tsp
  • Mustard seeds 1/2 tsp
  • Nigella seeds 1/2 tsp
  • Curry leaves 6
  • Dry red chilies 3

 

Method:
Soak the lentils in enough water for few hours. Drain. Combine the soaked lentils, turmeric powder, chili powder, salt and 1½ cups of water in a pressure cooker, cook till done and set aside. Heat the oil, add ¾ of the onions, garlic, bay leaf and green chilies and sauté.
Add the ginger paste, pumpkin and salt and cover and cook. Add the cooked lentils, tamarind pulp, mix well and cook. Keep aside.
Heat the clarified butter, add the cumin seeds, mustard seeds, nigella seeds, remaining ¼ cup of onions, curry leaves and dry red chilies and sauté. Pour it over the cooked lentils and mix well. Serve.
